Cops arrest 3 over meth, ice possession
Police have nabbed three drug suspects with more than 90,000 methamphetamine pills and 700 grammes of crystal meth in their possession at a temple in Ang Thong’s Wiset Chai Chan district.

Pol Lt Gen Thitirat Nongharnpitak, commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau, said Crime Suppression Division police apprehended Poonsawat Keawkem, 45, Tarunpassakorn Tomsung, 44 and Tawit Neampong, 41 at a parking space of Wat Muang located in tambon Huataphan, Wiset Chai Chan district in Ang Thong province on Thursday afternoon.
Police received a tip-off from an informant that Mr Poonsawat is a major drug dealer who had supplied drugs to customers in Bangkok and the outskirts of the city, Pol Lt Gen Thitirat said.
A police investigation discovered the drug network had produced more than one million methamphetamine pills worth more than 200 million baht, he said.
On Thursday, police tracked down Mr Poonsawat, who was driving a pickup truck heading to Wat Muang.
At one point, he stopped the pickup truck at the temple and a man driving another pickup immediately parked his vehicle near Mr Poonsawat’s.
Mr Poonsawat then carried a sack to the vehicle parked near his.
Police who had waited in ambush behind the temple caught Mr Poonsawat and two other suspects inside the other pickup truck.
A total of 80,000 methamphetamine pills were found inside the sack and seized, police said.
Police later went to Mr Poonsawat’s house in Kanchanaburi and Ms Tarunpassakorn and Mr Tawit’s house in Uthai Thani to search for other illicit drugs that might have been hidden there.
They found another 16,000 methamphetamine pills hidden in bags of sunflower seeds and 716 grammes of crystal methamphetamine, widely known as ya ice, together with equipment for drug production and drug paraphernalia.
Mr Poonsawat allegedly confessed to investigators that he was charged with possessing drugs for sale two years ago.
After being released from prison, he started up a cassava business but made a loss last year.

They arrived there in two pickup trucks.
At the couple's house in Kanchanaburi, police found 16,000 more speed pills, 716 grammes of crystal methamphetamine, or "ice", equipment for making methamphetamine pills, and an amount of methamphetamine powder.
Pol Lt Gen Thitirat said the couple had enough "product" for the production of 1 million speed pills worth about 200 million baht. He said they were making pills out of normal methamphetamine mixed with crystal meth.
Police allege Mr Poonsawat is a big drug supplier in Bangkok and nearby provinces.
Mr Poonsawat said he had been freed from jail in April 2014 after serving a term for drug trafficking and after unsuccessfully trying his hand at farming cassava had returned to the drug business.
He admitted that he bought speed and mixed it with crystal meth to increase the potency before selling it as pills.

mal eine Frage an die Ortsansässigen. Als ich Jugendlicher war ging bei dem ein oder andern Baggerseefest schon mal ein Joint um, oder man kannte jemanden, der jemanden kennt, bei dem man sich ein paar gr. Gras besorgen konnte. Allerdings zu härtere Drogen hatten "normale" Jugendliche keinen Kontakt. Das war ein spezielles eng begrenztes Klientel.
Wenn ich jetzt hier lese, welche Mengen an Pillen beschlagnahmt werden, frage ich mich - wird das Zeug hinter dem Schulhof verhökert. Oder anders gefragt, hat ein ganz normaler Jugendlicher so ohne weiteres Zugang zu diesen harten Drogen?
Bei der Menge die offenbar umgeht, befürchte ich es beinahe.

In dem Quartier, in dem ich früher wohnte, war allseits bekannt, dass man bei der alten Frau, die gegrillte Hühnerschenkel vor ihrem Haus vertrieb, auch Pillen kaufen konnte.
Aber es gibt auch Positives aus Udon Thani. Die Gemeinde verpflichtet erwischte Drogenkonsumenten, sich regelmässig zum Drogenscreening zu melden. Man muss dann in regelmässigen Abständen zur Gemeinde und sich dort einem Drogentest unterziehen. Ob sich daraus Konsequenzen bei vorbestraften Leuten ergeben weiss ich allerdings nicht.
Auch wenn die Menge der durch die Polizei konfiszierten Pillen riesig erscheint - sie ist wohl nur die Spitze des Eisberges.

in unserem Dorf, weiss sogar ich, der nicht einmal raucht, wer diese Pillen hat zu Hause und verkauft.
Es gab einen Thai, mit einem grossen Motorrad bei uns, der in ganz grossem Stiele verkaufte, heute sehe und hoehre ich ihn nicht mehr. Wenn ich Thais frage wo der ist, bekomme ich zur Antwort: Er sei in Hongkong
Seine Frau und ihr 3 jaehriger Sohn, muessen den Strom vom Nachbarn nehmen, da der Ortsvorsteher den Saft abgedreht hat, dass macht er mit jedem, der von der Polizei wegen Drogen gesucht wird. Verstaendlich, den wenn der Ortsvorsteher einmal im Monat zum Raport muss, auf die Gemeinde und ihm von seinem Chef vorgehalten wird, dass es in seinem Dorf Leute gibt, die wegen Drogen gesucht werden, dann wird ihm Geld gekuertzt, dass fuer das Dorf ist.

566,000 speed pills seized in Chumphon
CHUMPHON — Police confiscated more than a half-million methamphetamine tablets during the arrest of four supsects in Pathiu district.
Chumphon natives Worawit Bua-in, 49, Pranee Maithong, 33, Tossaporn Niyomsub, 36, and Chusak Maithong, 42, were taken to a police news conference at the Ban Pala security checkpoint in Khao Chairat sub-district on Tuesday.
Pol Lt Col Chalard Ponakorn, deputy investigative chief at Muang Chumphon police station, said officers found two boxes containing 566,000 ya ba pills in the boot of a Saraburi-registered Toyota Altis after it was pulled over at the Ban Pala checkpoint on Sunday.
Mr Worawit, who drove the car, reportedly confessed to police that he and three accomplices were hired by a drug gang for 1 million baht to smuggle the narcotics from Nonthaburi's Bang Bua Thong district to the southern province of Trang.
The other suspects were in an Isuzu pickup truck which had driven past the checkpoint. The truck driven by Mrs Pranee was used as a scouting vehicle. Police later chased and intercepted the Chumphon-registered truck and rounded them up.
Officials seized the vehicles and nine mobile phones from the suspects. A further investigation was underway to identify other gang members, Pol Lt Col Chalard said.
Pol Lt Col Chalard said the speed had an estimated street value of at least 170 million baht. It was apple-flavoured and had an apple logo on the package. Each pill cost between 300-350 baht, which is double the price of a unflavoured, lower-quality pills, he said.
An ongoing investigation found some of the seized drugs would be smuggled out of the country to Malaysia, he added.

Traffickers arrested, B200m of speed, 'ice' seized
Three people have been arrested and more than 30kg of crystal methamphetamine, or "ice", and 500,000 speed pills hidden in spare car tyres seized in Bangkok.
Chamras Denpreecha, 54, of Chiang Rai’s Mae Sai, Lerdsak Puripanyanant, 37, of Loei’s Wang Saphung, and a Shan man identified only as Chai were arrested separately in Bangkok and Chiang Mai on Monday and taken to a news conference at the Narcotics Suppression Bureau on Tuesday.
Police said they also seized 31.8kg of crystal methamphetamine, 500,000 methamphetamine pills and a black Ford Escape with a Bangkok licence plate, and seven mobile phones.
The arrests followed a police investigation that found out Mr Chai, an alleged member of a major drug trafficking gang in Chiang Rai’s Mae Sai district, had smuggled illicit drugs into Bangkok by hiding them in spare car tyres, Pol Maj Gen Pornchai Charoenwong, commander of the Narcotics Suppression Bureau’s Division 3, said.
Undercover police had contacted the suspect and arranged to buy 27kg of crystal methamphetamine for 13.5 million baht.
Mr Chai later assigned Mr Chamras to deliver the drugs in a car park at Khlongchan housing estate in Bangkok’s Bang Kapi district on Feb 1.
When Mr Chamras and Mr Lerdsak arrived at the venue in a Ford Escape to deliver the 27kg of crystal meth, police showed up to arrest them.
Police then took the duo with them to search Mr Lerdsak's house at Sena Villa 84 housing estate in Bang Kapi district, and found 500,000 speed pills and another 4.8kg of crystal methamphetamine hidden in car tyres. Mr Chai was later arrested in Mae Sai district of Chiang Rai.
National police chief Chakthip Chaichinda said the seized drugs, worth about 200 million baht, belonged to the trafficking network of the late drug kingpin Khun Sa in Myanmar.
NSB chief Rewat Klinsesorn said warrants have been obtained for the arrest of a Shan couple in Mae Sai for their involvement in the trafficking of the seized drugs.
The couple operated a gold shop and a money exchange service in the northern border district, said Pol Lt Gen Rewat.

One killed, meth seized in border drug clash
MAE HONG SON -- One drug courier was killed and 130,000 methamphetamine pills seized in a clash between a group of drug smugglers and a combined police and military unit in Pai district of this northern province on Saturday afternoon.
Col Chaidaen Krisanasuwan, commander of the 7th Infantry Company, said the clash took place about 7 kilometres from the border near Ban Muang Noi in Pai district.
After the clash, the authorities examined the scene and found the dead body of a drug courier, identified later as Duangkham Thaduangkaew, of Chiang Mai's Wiang Haeng district.
The combined unit seized a fertiliser sack containing 130,000 methamphetamine pills near the body.

Narcotics suppression police have arrested two suspects with 1.9 million methamphetamine pills and 10 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine in Ayutthaya province, police chief Chakthip Chaijinda said at a press conference on Tuesday.
Pol Gen Chakthip said the arrest and the huge drug haul followed tips from informants that Hmong ethnic drug couriers would deliver drugs from tambon Tha Khao Pluak in Chiang Rai's Mae Chan district to clients in Muang district of Ayutthaya.
According to the informants, the drugs were to be delivered in two pickup trucks from Chiang Rai through Phayao, Lampang, Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Chai Nat, Sing Buri and Ang Thong to Ayutthaya.
Police units were deployed along suspected delivery routes to intercept them.
On Monday about 4.30pm, police spotted two pickup trucks parked in front of the central market for farm products in tambon Hantra of Ayutthaya's Muang district and decided to search them.
One of the pickups, a black Mitsubishi, sped away along the Asian Highway in the direction of Bangkok.
A search of the other pickup, an Isuzu Dmax, uncovered 950 packages containing 1.9 million methamphetamine pills and 10kg of "ice". Two men were arrested -- Somchart Akararoongrote, 29, and Roongroj Sae Hoe, 31, both of Tak province.
The pickup truck which fled was later found abandoned on the Ayutthaya-Suphan Buri road, but the driver, identified as Nikom Sae Ho, had fled.

Pol Lt Gen Rewat Klinkaysorn, commissioner of the Narcotics Suppression Bureau, told a press conference at the bureau in Bangkok today that the arrest resulted from a sting operation aimed at luring two suspected drug traffickers into selling 200,000 ya ba tablets for 9 million baht.
Yongyut Srithammupatham, a 31-year-old native of Phichit province, was arrested after allegedly delivering 140,000 pills on Buddha Monthon 5 Road in Samphran district, Nakhon Pathom, on Friday. Later, police found 1.43 million more pills and four kilogrammes of ya ice hidden in his Honda parked in tambon Rai Khing of Samphran.
Another group of plain-clothes police arrested Noraphat Wongphamit, 30 from Lampang province, as he allegedly handed over 60,000 pills in a parking lot next to Mahachai Hospital in Muang Samut Sakhon district, Samut Sakorn, the same day. Police found 222,000 more pills he kept at a house in tambon Thanad of Damnoen Saduak district, Ratchaburi.
Deputy national police chief Pongsapat Pongcharoen said both suspects told police they had acquired the drug from two suppliers in the North.
The suppliers were traffickers who had a plant to manufacture methamphetamines in Myanmar and smuggled them through northern Thailand to sell nationwide. Police already sought warrants for the arrest of the two producers, Pol Gen Pongsapat said.

Another group of plain-clothes police arrested Noraphat Wongphamit, 30 from Lampang province, as he allegedly handed over 60,000 pills in a parking lot next to Mahachai Hospital in Muang Samut Sakhon district, Samut Sakorn, the same day. Police found 222,000 more pills he kept at a house in tambon Thanad of Damnoen Saduak district, Ratchaburi.
Deputy national police chief Pongsapat Pongcharoen said both suspects told police they had acquired the drug from two suppliers in the North.
The suppliers were traffickers who had a plant to manufacture methamphetamines in Myanmar and smuggled them through northern Thailand to sell nationwide. Police already sought warrants for the arrest of the two producers, Pol Gen Pongsapat said.
