Chumphon police arrest 2 in big drug bust
CHUMPHON -- Police on Monday arrested two men with 296,000 methamphetamine pills at a checkpoint in Muang district.
Pol Lt Col Chalard Polnakan, head of the Ban Pala checkpoint, said the two were arrested when police stopped a pickup truck after it had passed another checkpoint in Prachuap Khiri Khan province uninspected.
The police found the speed pills hidden in a hidden compartment underneath the fuel tank.
The two -- Anan Bura, 24, and Narongsak Sopha, 25, both of Ubon Ratchathani's Nam Yuen district -- said they were hired by a Lao man for 200,000 baht to deliver the drugs from Samut Sakhon province to a client in Chumphon's Lang Suan district.
But Pol Lt Col Chalard said that, according to earlier intelligence reports, this lot of methamphetamine pills were smuggled in from Laos and destined for a border province of Malaysia.

Ich schaue taeglich die Nachrichten hier in Thailand. Fast taeglich werden junge Burschen gezeigt, wie sie vor der thailaendischen Polizei sitzen, vor ihnen auf einem Tisch die Pillen (rot) und auch abgepackt in handlichen Paechchen. Ich frage mich immer, was machen die verantwortlichen Polizisten wohl mit den Paeckchen oder der naechst hoehere 
, weil aber die Polizisten im Hintergrund laecheln und schmunzeln liegt die Antwort nahe....

Meth bust nabs two suspects
Police on Monday announced the arrest of two northern men apprehended with about 1.85 million methamphetamine tablets and four kilogrammes of crystal meth near Bangkok.
Pol Lt Gen Rewat Klinkaysorn, commissioner of the Narcotics Suppression Bureau, said the arrest resulted from a sting operation aimed at luring two suspected drug traffickers into selling 200,000 ya ba tablets for 9 million baht.
Yongyut Srithammupatham, a 31-year-old native of Phichit province, was arrested after allegedly delivering 140,000 pills to Buddha Monthon 5 Road in Samphran district, Nakhon Pathom, on Friday. Later, police found 1.45 million more pills and four kilogrammes of ya ice hidden in his Honda parked in tambon Rai Khing of Samphran.
Another group of plainclothes police officers arrested Noraphat Wongphamit, 30, from Lampang province, as he allegedly handed over 60,000 pills in a parking lot next to Mahachai Hospital in Muang Samut Sakhon district, Samut Sakhon, the same day. Police say they found 222,000 more pills at his house in tambon Thanad of Damnoen Saduak district, Ratchaburi.
Deputy national police chief Pongsapat Pongcharoen said the suspects told police they acquired the drugs from two suppliers in the North.
The suppliers had a plant manufacturing methamphetamines in Myanmar and smuggled the drugs through northern Thailand to sell across the country. Police have sought warrants for the arrest of the two producers, Pol Gen Pongsapat said.

1 million speed pills seized after high-speed chase
AYUTTHAYA -- Five men were arrested and more than 1 million methamphetamine pills seized in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya district after an extended police pursuit on Tuesday.
Two cars carrying the suspected narcotics traffickers flew along Asia Road towards Bangkok in a bid to escape arrest by northern narcotics suppression officers. Ayutthaya police set up roadblocks in Maha Rat and Bang Pahan districts around 2.30pm today, but the cars broke off and escaped after spotting the checkpoints.
The suspects eventually were stopped at kilometre maker 22 in tambon Hantra in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya district. Five men were arrested after a search found more than one million ya ba tablets hidden in the cars.
Two of the suspects were identified as Atthaphol Ounchanthee, 26, and Anon Phor-ngarm, 25. The other three suspects had yet to be identified. Narcotics suppression police took the five to Bangkok for interrogation.
An initial investigation accused the suspects of being members of a drug gang in Bangkok's Ratchada area. The seized narcotics had been smuggled from the North to sell to their customers in the capital, said police.

Drug smuggling network busted, 6 suspects arrested
Police believe they have smashed a gang smuggling drugs to the far South and Malaysia with the arrests of six people and seizure 780,000 methamphetamine pills in police operations in Samut Prakan, Surat Thani and Narathiwat provinces.
Three drug suspects, two men and a woman, were apprehended in Samut Prakan on Saturday and shown at a media briefing at Provincial Police Region 1 office on Tuesday.
The trio, identified as Piyachart Thachart, 37, of Phetchaburi, Paisarn Saensenya, 31, of Nakhon Sawan and Saranya Pongthani, 32, of Lop Buri, were caught on the Kanchanaphisek expressway in Samut Prakan’s Phra Pradaeng district on Feb 27.
Police seized 662,000 speed pills, a trailer truck with a Yala licence plate and three mobile phones as evidence.
The suspects were charged with having illicit drugs in their possession. Mr Paisarn and Ms Saranya also face charges of attempting to bribe police.
Pol Maj Gen Methee Kusonsang, deputy chief of Provincial Police Region 1, said on Tuesday that the arrests followed information that a gang would use a trailer truck to smuggle a consignment of drugs to the far South, using the Kanchanaphisek expressway bridge across the Chao Phraya River.
Police deployed to the area stopped the suspected trailer truck for a search on Saturday evening and found the methamphetamine hidden in modified fuel tanks, Pol Maj Gen Methee said.
Mr Piyachart, the driver, confessed he was hired by Jakkrawan Khaithavorn to deliver the drugs to Songkhla’s Hat Yai district.
Mr Paisarn and Ms Saranya arrived a short time later and offered the arresting police 250,000 baht to release Mr Piyachart. The duo were arrested.
Police later arrested Mr Jakkrawan at his house in Lop Buri and also seized some weapons from him. The suspect was handed over to local police, said Pol Maj Gen Methee.
A search of the house of another gang member arrested earlier, Thanathorn Sukchai, in Bangkok’s Rom Klao resulted in speed pills, two cars, two motorcycles and four mobile phones being seized.
Pol Maj Gen Ronnasilp Phusara, a deputy chief of Provincial Police Region 1, said the gang had smuggled the drugs from Tak province and stored them in the Romklao area. The drugs were destined for Hat Yat district and the three southernmost border provinces.
In another operation, three members of a drug trafficking gang were arrested separately and 118,000 speed pills seized in Surat Thani and Narathiwat provinces.
The suspects -- Assamanwadee Binmanu, 34, Masae Dorlor, 37, and Paisan Klaharn, 35, all from Narathiwat -- were apprehended on Monday and taken to a media briefing at the Southern Border Provinces Police Operations Centre on Tuesday.
Mr Assamanwadee was arrested in Surat Thani while the two other men were caught at a police checkpoint in Sungai Kolok district of Narathiwat.
Police said the gang had smuggled the drugs from the Central region to customers in the deep South and Malaysia.

The suspects were all sitting in different carriages of Butterworth-bound train No.35, police said.
A search of the train uncovered many packages of crystal meth, or "ice", in five cloth bags. Each package of the drug was wrapped in gift paper. Seven Malaysian passengers, all men, were arrested
According to police they confessed to having smuggled the drugs from the North. They said they had delivered 34kg of crystal meth to a person at Nakhon Pathom railway station and 30kg to a person at Hua Hin railway station before being arrested.
The seized drugs, with a face value of about 400 million baht, were destined for customers in the South of Thailand and in Malaysia, Thai media reported.
The traffickers reportedly admitted they were being paid 2,000 ringgit (about 17,500 baht) a kilogramme for delivering of the drugs to the trafficker's agents.
They were later taken to the Office of the Narcotics Control Board in Bangkok.

Two men have been arrested for possession of 285 kilogrammes of pure crystal methamphetamine, worth more than 600 million baht, police said.
Police chief Chakthip Chaijinda said yesterday Chang Kim Sui and Lim Yean Hooi, both Malaysian nationals, were busted by police attached to the Narcotics Suppression Bureau at the Thai-Malaysian border in the Sadao district of Songkhla.
He was speaking yesterday as he announced the arrest of the suspects.
He did not say when the arrests were made.
The duo were caught as they were driving through Sadao checkpoint where they were stopped by authorities, police said.
A search of their vehicles found seven bags containing a total of 285kg of crystal methamphetamine, police said.
Police seized the drugs and two cars from the suspects as evidence, the national police chief said.
Pol Gen Chakthip said Thai intelligence agencies were tipped off by Malaysian authorities that drug runners would attempt to smuggle drugs from Thailand into Malaysia.
"It was one of the country's largest drug busts thanks to the cooperation of Malaysian authorities," Pol Gen Chakthip said.
The value of the seized drugs, which were pure, would likely increase had they been smuggled into a third country, he said, adding the seized drugs have an estimated street value of more than 600 million baht.
Police believe the suspects are not linked to a drug ring arrested last week on a train that was heading to Malaysia.
Pol Gen Chakthip said he has ordered police to step up suppression efforts to stem the flow of drugs through the country's borders during Songkran festivities.

Yarameenyi Wahub, 35, and Ma-ae Jaebuaraheng, 43, were taken to a police news conference at the provincial police bureau on Tuesday after being arrested for smuggling 40 million baht in ya ba.
Police Provincial Region 8 deputy chief Tawatchai Nilanutch said the Ban Pala security checkpoint on Phetkasem Road in Pathiu district on Monday received a tip that a gang of drug dealers was using at least two vehicles to deliver a large quantity of meth to the southern border provinces.
Officers pulled over Mr Ma-ae as his Honda Civic matched the description of one of the suspect vehicles. Police said he looked nervous and refused to answer several phone calls while talking to them. After tense interrogation, Mr Ma-ae confessed that he and Mr Yarameenyi -- who was following in a drug-filled Isuzu pickup -- were hired to transport the narcotics from Pathum Thani to Narathiwat, police said. Mr Ma-ae said he was scouting for police.
Mr Yarameenyee was apprehended at a hotel in Bang Saphan district of Prachuap Khiri Khan where police uncovered of bundles of 204,000 speed pills hidden in a specially-modified fuel tank of the Isuzu.
He said the Narathiwat natives recently had been released from prison after serving time for smuggling cannabis, contraband and migrant workers.
The Ban Pala security checkpoint in Chumphon has been recognised as a major point of interception for drugs and other illegal items head from North to South in recent years. More than 1 billion baht in drugs has been confiscated there in the past six months.

Narcotics Suppression Bureau police seized 736,000 methamphetamine pills and four kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine in three operations that netted five arrests over the weekend.
NSB commissioner Pol Lt Col Rewat Klinsesorn said Monday that, on April 9, Veerapong Tanoo, 27, was arrested after police stopped his van at the Phayuha Khiri checkpoint on the southbound Asian Highway in Nakhon Sawan province. Found in his possession were 678,000 methamphetamine pills and about two kilogrammes of ya ice.
In the second operation, NSB police arrested Saknarong Simpiboon, 30, Ratree Boonkanha, 35, Nakhin Fuangsiri, 23, and Navapol Mataya, 20, with 18,000 speed pills, one car, two motorcycles and seven mobile phones at the car park at the Megahome department store in Chon Buri's Si Racha district on April 10.
Also on April 10, a team of police and soldiers seized 20 bundles of 40,000 ya ba pills and two kilogrammes of ice at kilometre marker 3 on Phayon Yothin road in Ayutthaya's Bang Pa-in district. Police were still looking for the owners of the drugs.

In the second operation, NSB police arrested Saknarong Simpiboon, 30, Ratree Boonkanha, 35, Nakhin Fuangsiri, 23, and Navapol Mataya, 20, with 18,000 speed pills, one car, two motorcycles and seven mobile phones at the car park at the Megahome department store in Chon Buri's Si Racha district on April 10.
Also on April 10, a team of police and soldiers seized 20 bundles of 40,000 ya ba pills and two kilogrammes of ice at kilometre marker 3 on Phayon Yothin road in Ayutthaya's Bang Pa-in district. Police were still looking for the owners of the drugs.
